Carol Shirley
Artist, Carol Shirley, was born and raised
in Baton Rouge but moved to Clinton after purchasing and restoring a c.1823 house 13 years ago.
After later purchasing the Brame-Bennett House, c.1840, another restoration began. She and husband, Buddy, now reside in a
100 year-old farm house ten miles out of Clinton, which backs up to the Amite River, a recurring theme of her paintings.
Loving the rolling hills of the Felicianas where her ancestors settled in early 1800, she and her husband ended up on the
same land that, much to her amazement, was settled by Carol's early family members.
The love
of mature landscapes, old buildings, and nature is the inspiration for many of her paintings.
While she has painted for over 40 years, much of that time was devoted to family, other work and interests. Painting
with a group at McKnight’s in downtown Clinton has rekindled this passion, where she also teaches oil painting and watercolor
classes. Many years of study with other artists and research have fueled a desire to share this knowledge
with others.
